Course details

As dronetraining.co.uk (formerly The Aerial Academy), we haven’t formally introduced Carys! Carys is our newest instructor and will base her courses in Glossop on the edge of the beautiful Peak District.

Carys blogs regularly as The Drone Lass and is an experienced director, producer, camera operator and drone pilot! Have a look at her blog for loads more details.

Carys’s first course will be for women only and will run on 13th-14th May at Glossop. To access the course booking, please visit our booking page, select “Special Event” and use the code “allfemale” to unlock the booking.

Carys will also be running open courses on other dates. Please see the website for more details.

If you are interested in an all female course, but can’t make 13th and 14th May, please contact us for more details.

Why doesn’t the industry attract more female pilots?

Having been in the drone industry for 7 years now as both a pilot and instructor, it is plain to see that there is a certain demographic within the industry. At almost any event I go to, the demographic has been predominantly male, generally of ages 30-50ish. However, when you look at the operational procedures used in the industry, it is probably one of the most accessible jobs that anyone could do, there really should be no barrier to entry based on gender or anything else really!

As Carys discusses in her excellent blog post, her research shows that approximately 3% of pilots in the UK drone industry are female. More research is needed to show why this is the case, but it does seem that numbers may also vary considerably by sector.
